Amazing Grace had her debut on the newspaper on August 23, 2002. I was elated when she first came out. And just like an answered prayer, I went out telling my friends about it like a raving lunatic. This year, we are celebrating her 9th anniversary. I hope and pray she'll be here, warts and all, for more years to come.

SAFARI 2
By: Percy R. Lugue
"Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it."
I think there's a big difference when someone gives you a gift and you asking for a gift in great detail from an institution that you know has funds earmarked for the poor ergo Charity sweepstakes. I think some of the bishops went a little overboard with their wish list...and it aint addressed to Santa Claus.
I know we have to cut them some slack but I think this should be a big lesson for them too. They are supposed to be exemplary of a lifestyle of simplicity or of poverty if you will but in reality most if not all seem to live grandiose or Marie Antoinettish lifestyle. Which I think disillusions me a tad.
Off with their head... I mean Marie Antoinette's! I suppose you're quite right. Sometimes we all need some experience like this to make us realize our own frailties.I mean who doesn't commit mistakes but then when you are in position like they have, one must realize that much is expected from them because the errors of your ways will not only affect you but the multitudes who look up to you as role models.
That's why they should know better. If we can't find upstanding characteristics from our leaders, spiritual leaders at that where else can we cling to for a semblance of goodness or of sanity at the very least.
I think in all this we should not forget that the office of the presbyterate is not in any way tarnished by whatever mistakes some of the priests may have done. I remember metaphor from way back that captures so succinctly what I'm trying to say...it's about a dirty broom. Sometimes it seems inevitable that we'd hear stories of priests having some lapses in judgment but such is human frailty and no one seems exempt. Sometimes we may lose our respect, at times lose our religion, or our faith because of their predicament. In Times like this we don't need just a gum, we need to remember that just like a dirty broom, no matter how filthy it may seem, can still make something else clean.
